About Equinox

A small Toronto HVAC company on purpose.

Founded in 2014. Six people on payroll, never sub-contractors. We picked the size we work best at and stayed there. Mostly heat-pump retrofits, mostly Toronto, mostly word-of-mouth.

The story

Started in a basement in 2014, still mostly in basements today.

Daniel founded Equinox after twelve years bouncing between residential and commercial HVAC firms across the GTA. The pattern he kept seeing: rushed visits, oversized equipment, sub-contracted installs that nobody owned.

We picked a single zip code's worth of work, hired only people who could explain why before they explained how, and grew slowly. Twelve years later we have four trucks, six people, and a waiting list every fall.

We're not trying to grow into a chain. The size you call us at is the size you'll meet on the doorstep.

Why Equinox

We're a small shop on purpose.

Five technicians, a dispatcher, an apprentice, and a founder still on the truck. Twelve years in. We picked the size we work best at and stayed there.

  • Right-sized, not maxed-out

We don't propose 4-ton condensers when 2-ton is correct. Comfort comes from sizing, not from BTU.

  • Show the math

Every quote shows the heat-loss / heat-gain calc, the rebate math, and the projected annual operating cost. If we won't show our work, we shouldn't be asking for your money.

  • Clean up the worksite

Drop sheets up before tools come in. Vacuum after. Sweep the driveway. The basement should look better when we leave than when we arrived.

  • Honest "we don't know"

If we don't know what's wrong, we'll say so and bring a second tech. We don't guess on a $4,000 invoice.

  • We answer at 11 PM in February

Heat is non-optional. Our emergency line is staffed by an actual human, in Toronto, who can dispatch a technician within 90 minutes for most no-heat calls.

What clients say

Compliments we've earned, kept honest.

We don't curate testimonials past a 5-star filter — these are real, recent, and copied verbatim from post-job survey replies.

They sized down our furnace and the upstairs is finally comfortable in winter. Two other companies told us we needed a bigger one — Equinox showed us why that was wrong.

P. & S.

Junction Triangle · 1900 row house · Furnace replacement

Quoted on the spot, no surprises on the invoice. They sent the rebate paperwork to me already pre-filled. I just signed and emailed it back.

M.

High Park · Heat-pump conversion

Showed up at 9 AM, diagnosed by lunch, replaced the contactor and the cap, kept us open through dinner service. We didn't lose a single reservation.

S., owner

Queen West café · Emergency rooftop repair

The technician noticed our return ducts were strangled and said 'I can fix this in 90 minutes for under $500.' He did. We didn't even know that was a thing.

K.

East York · Duct balancing

Three generations live here, and they finally have separate thermostats for the basement suite without ripping up the ceilings. Lifesavers.

Family of T.

Etobicoke · Ductless retrofit

I'm a property manager. Equinox does our maintenance plans across six buildings. The reporting alone makes them worth it. The work is also the best we've had.

J., Northbridge property mgmt.

Six small commercial sites · Quarterly maintenance
