FAQ
Questions we get on most first calls.
If your question isn't here, the dispatch line is the fastest way to get a real answer. We don't gatekeep the technical stuff.
Booking & visits
No. Quotes for installs are free, including the home visit and the load calculation. We don't sub-contract the visit either — the person quoting is the person who'll oversee the install.
Same-day for emergency no-heat or no-cool calls. 2 – 5 days for non-emergency repairs and tune-ups. 7 – 14 days for installs in shoulder season.
Toronto proper, Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough, East York, and York. We can travel to Mississauga, Vaughan, and Markham for established customers — ask us.
Yes, year-round. From November through March we hold dispatch slots specifically for no-heat calls. We answer the line with a real human, not a recording.
Furnace & heating
Most like-for-like replacements are completed in a single day. We arrive at 8 AM and your heat is on by dinner. Modulating systems with new venting may take a second day.
If your current unit is 80 – 85% AFUE, yes — typically 15 – 25% on heating cost. We'll model your specific usage so you have a realistic expectation.
We don't install customer-supplied equipment. Manufacturer warranties usually require a registered installer to be the supplier of record, and we won't compromise that.
Heat pumps
Cold-climate heat pumps rated for our climate hold capacity to -25 °C. We measure it at every commissioning. The myth that they don't work here comes from older equipment that genuinely couldn't.
Sometimes. We do a panel walk-through during the first visit. About 40% of homes need a panel upgrade for full electrification; for hybrid systems most don't.
For most retrofits, yes — at least for the first winter. Hybrid logic uses the gas furnace below a tuned changeover temperature for economic reasons. Many owners decommission gas in year 2 or 3.
Greener Homes Loan and HER+ are the major active programs as of late 2025. We complete the paperwork on your behalf at no extra charge.
Air conditioning
Most installs land between 54 – 58 dB at 1 metre — quieter than a refrigerator. Variable-speed inverter units are noticeably quieter than single-stage.
If it's R-22 (pre-2010), we recommend planning replacement: refrigerant is restricted and a leak repair can exceed the cost of the unit. If it's R-410A and serviceable, we'll happily extend its life.
SEER2 is the newer test standard with more realistic conditions. A SEER 16 unit is roughly equivalent to a SEER2 14.3. We always quote SEER2.
Indoor air quality
Probably not. UV-C helps in specific situations (mould on the evaporator coil, persistent organic odours). It's not a default add-on. We measure first.
MERV 11 if your system has a 1" filter slot, MERV 13 if you have a 4" media cabinet. Going higher than your system was designed for chokes airflow and creates worse problems than it solves.
If sized and balanced correctly, no. Modern HRVs recover 75 – 90% of outgoing heat. We commission with airflow measurement.
Pricing & payment
Flat-rate quotes for installs (one number, no surprises). Time-and-materials for repairs ($129 + HST diagnostic, $145/hr labour, parts at MSRP). We give a written estimate before any repair work begins.
Yes — Visa, Mastercard, Amex. Also Interac e-Transfer and cheque. Larger projects can use 0% financing through Snap or FinanceIt — we'll show options.
Yes, through Snap and FinanceIt. Promotional 0% terms available on installs. We don't get paid extra to push financing, and we'll quote with and without it.
Warranty & service
Two years of labour on the install. Manufacturer parts coverage runs 5 – 12 years depending on equipment, and we register every unit on your behalf.
Us. Same number, 24/7, year-round. Plan customers go to the front of the queue.
Yes. Most of our maintenance plan customers inherited their equipment from a previous owner.
