A rebate can make a worthwhile project easier to afford. The useful first step is checking the program sequence while the proposal is still being prepared, so the installation date does not get ahead of an approval requirement.

Keep the equipment proposal and the rebate estimate separate enough to see the full project price, the expected incentive and any amount you must pay before reimbursement.

Source: Home Renovation Savings: heat pumps and application sequence

The program's heat-pump page currently requires a participating contractor to submit a pre-installation application. Approval must arrive before installation; the page states that work installed before approval is ineligible. This heat-pump stream does not require a home energy assessment.

Eligibility depends on the home, owner, existing primary heat source and qualified equipment. The listed air-source rebate caps differ by heating source, so a headline maximum is not an estimate for every house.

Use the official program page and current terms to confirm the applicable amount and model combination. Contractor participation should also be verified through the program.

What to confirm before scheduling

  • Who submits the application, and how you receive approval confirmation.
  • Which exact equipment combination appears in the approved proposal.
  • How substitutions or changes will be handled before installation.
  • Who completes the post-installation submission and supplies your records.

Ask what the quoted price assumes about eligibility. If the incentive is not approved, you should understand the purchase terms before the work begins.

Keep the approval, invoice, model details and completion records together. Program rules can change, so revisit the official requirements when you are ready to proceed rather than relying on an old screenshot or a neighbour's payment.

A clear application sequence lets the equipment decision and the funding decision support each other. It also makes the next step straightforward: obtain the required approval, then confirm the installation arrangements.
